Online-Friendly Single-Student Friendly 10+ Minute Runtime

Game Features

  • Bold, visual design
  • Easy to edit with your own reading material
  • A fun way to get students up and moving while reading
  • Make different levels that increase in difficulty (and fun!)

How to Play

  • All students stand up.
  • When the game starts, they start reading the sentences on the screen together.
  • If a word has a symbol above it, students do the action when they read the word (clap, jump, shout, squat, or spin).
  • I usually like to start out easy (no actions) then gradually increase the amount of actions as students move up to different levels in the game.

Variations

  • Instead of reading together, you can have students each read a word one by one.
  • While the game can be used as is for online teaching, feel free to change the actions to better fit your online teaching environment as needed (ex. whisper instead of shout or using more hand motions if you want students to stay seated).

(comments and runtimes from the previous version of my site)

  • Students: 3 | Time: 10min | Skill Focus: Reading | Finished Game? 🟢

We had a bunch of students out, leaving us with a super small class. Since we had extra space to move around, this was a great way to fill time while still practicing our reading. I did it with elementary school first graders and they loved it! Will definitely do it again. We took turns with reading and then did a few all together. - Anon

  • I edited this as a review for my 3rd graders and they LOVED it. They had so much energy when it was all over. Love this activity so much thank you! - Maya

  • Huge fan of this one! The younger kids love a chance to get up and jump about, and the older ones want to hate it but end up having more fun than they realise. The actions are a really effective way to slow down the quicker readers so everyone can read together and nobody feels left out. - Hannah

  • I just used this game yesterday with my 11 year-old EFL students. They LOVED it! Reading drills can be boring, but with this game, I got EVERYBODY participating!  - Akiko
