Speaking Writing 40+ Minute Runtime

Game Features

  • Much of the game concept comes from the actual gameplay of the Among Us game
  • Features graphics, animations, and sound effects similar to the game as well
  • Includes interactive voting and in-game scoring slides
  • Only works with PowerPoint 2013 or later - earlier versions have issues with slides resetting

How to Play

  • Split students up into 6 teams (blue, white, green, orange, yellow, and pink).
  • Each team starts the game with 5 lives.
  • Each round, a team will choose a number on the map.
  • That number will go to one of two slides: either a voting slide or a task slide.
  • On the voting slide, there are three crewmates with boxes next to them.
  • Teams discuss which crewmate they think is the impostor.
  • When time is up, each team will cast their vote by saying the word or sentence in the box of their choice.
  • After all teams have cast their votes, the teacher will reveal which of the three crewmates was the impostor.
  • If on the voting slide, the impostor had the most votes, all teams stay alive (no one loses any lives).
  • However, if the impostor didn't have the most votes or there was a tie, the teams who didn't vote for the impostor lose a life and the team(s) who did vote for the impostor gain a life.
  • The teacher keeps track of each team's lives on the in-game scoring slide.
  • On the task slide, teams will be confronted with a certain task, which ultimately is up to you when you edit game. Example tasks include unscramble a word or sentence, translate, answer the question, fill-in-the-blank, use the picture to say a word/sentence, etc.
  • One student from each team will stand up and once the teacher reveals the task, the first student to raise their hand and complete the task correctly gains a life for their team.
  • If a team loses all their lives, they become a ghost. Meaning, their team can still vote, but the only way they can get back in the game is to gain a life through a task (can't through voting).
  • The team with the most lives at the end of the game is the winner!
  • Further instructions on how to play/how to use the PowerPoint can be found in the notes section of each slide. However, VERY IMPORTANT, make sure you use the in-game hyperlinks to switch between slides - don't click or press the arrow keys or space bar - or you will reset the scoring, map, and voting slides.

Variations

  • To play as a speaking game, use images in the boxes on the voting slides. To play as a reading game, use words or sentences in the boxes.
  • To play as a writing game, give each team a whiteboard and dry erase marker and have them cast their vote by writing the word/sentence of their choice. Then when time is up, one by one each team will reveal their vote.

Teacher Feedback

(comments and runtimes from the previous version of my site)

  • Students: 16 | Time: 35min | Skill Focus: Review | Finished Game? 🔴

I played this game as a review game at the end of the textbook chapter/lesson, and decided to spend the whole lesson on the game. I found it works really well as a review game and gets all the students excited. Generally, the actual playtime is only 35 minutes after splitting the class into teams and explaining the rules. Overall the game is popular and great for reviewing, it does take time to play but I think for review purposes that's fine. - Anon

  • Students: 25 | Time: 35min | Skill Focus: Speaking | Finished Game? 🔴

Some classes came close to finishing, but most of the time there were 3 or so rounds left. - Anon

  • Students: 30 | Time: 60min | Skill Focus: Speaking | Finished Game? 🟢

Whole lesson on the game for both review and speaking (groups had to say their answer). Kids had fun! Estimated time it took includes instructions + splitting teams. - Anon

  • Students: 40 | Time: 50min | Skill Focus: Review | Finished Game? 🔴

Explaining the rules took a while longer than expected. I made each of the crewmember voting options a question/vocab word the students had to answer as their "vote," which is what made the game slow. We had several rounds left, but the students had fun anyway and there was a clear winner in the end. - Anon

  • Tayler, I absolutely love your PPT templates and so do my students. I have been using them since you started posting in Koreshare! I wish I had you skill and time to make these too! You really have a great talent! The best part are these games are very popular with kids nowadays so they are interested even though they may not like English. Thanks for helping to make me the cool teacher at school! - Stephanie

  • Thank you so, so much for creating these. My students absolutely love your games, and it makes teaching them and keeping them engaged so much easier and they have so much fun with these. I teach kindergarten and first graders so thank you for helping me lock down their attention span for the amount of time I have them, haha. You've inspired me to try and create some of my own :) - A

  • My students beg me to play this game, constantly. I teach Math, so I have altered all of your games for individual or group use and to incorporate writing/problem solving. Long story short, I owe you many coffees. - Kyle

  • This is such a good game!! - Molly
