Listening Speaking Single-Student Friendly 10+ Minute Runtime

Game Features

  • Materials provided in the downloadable file for this game (students will also need a paperclip and pen/pencil to complete the spinner)
  • Play as a reading or a speaking game

How to Play

  • Students play this game in pairs.
  • Each pair gets one spinner and two Twister sheets (one per student).
  • For this game, students take turns spinning the paperclip on the spinner.
  • When the paperclip stops, they look at the finger and color it's pointing to.
  • They then choose a circle with the same color as what they spinned on their game sheet by reading the word/sentence in the circle.
  • Both students put their fingers on that circle.
  • Then, their partner spins and the game continues until a person's finger moves off a circle or they can’t reach the next circle.

Variations

  • The instructions above are for the reading version of this game. If you want to use it as a speaking activity, use images instead of text in the circles on the Twister sheets.

Teacher Feedback

(comments and runtimes from the previous version of my site)

  • For this game, students had trouble spinning the paperclip without using both hands so my variation is that this game is played in groups of three. One person is in charge of spinning and they get to practice saying colors and finger names. Then one of the other two choose the word. They can decide who chooses the spot by either taking turns, playing RPS, or whoever reads the word faster. - Trinity
