Students will love pretending to be secret agents for the day with this spy decoder craft and codebreaker activity! It makes for a fun project to help practice the alphabet, spelling, and writing.
Included in download:
- 2 decoder templates (one with and without the English alphabet pre-printed)
- Codebreaker activity worksheet
Craft instructions:
- Students write letters on the outside of the bottom circle (if not using the pre-printed template).
- Then, they write their code on the outside of the middle circle. Their code can be anything they want: numbers, pictures, letters, symbols, etc.
- Once finished, they cut out the circles and punch a small hole in the middle of each of them.
- To finish, they put them one on top of the other and secure them together with a paper fastener.
Activity instructions:
- Students exchange their "Crack the Spy Codes" worksheet with a classmate.
- In one of the boxes, they will write their name, code key (A=__), and a secret message to their classmate using the spy decoder wheel they just made.
- Once finished, they give their decoder wheel to their classmate as well as return their classmate's worksheet.
- Finally, they both figure out their secret messages to each other using each other's decoder wheels.
- Repeat this process as many times as you wish or for as long as time allows.
