Lava Run!
☆ Created by The Cross-Cultural Classroom ☆
Go straight, turn left, turn right, and try to make it to the safe zone without falling in the lava! Download this language game as a great way for your students to practice giving directions.
Uses:
- Can be used as a speaking game to practice giving basic directions (go straight, turn left, and turn right)
- Great for ESL/EFL, but can be used for any foreign/second language learning as all text is editable
How it works:
Simple Version
- Students give directions from the starting point (star block) to the safe zone (trophy block).
- To do this, they will tell the teacher, "go straight," "turn right," or "turn left."
- The teacher will click the square according to the direction the students say.
- If they fall in lava, the teacher resets the board, and they have to start over.
Variation
- Students play in teams and each team gives directions from the starting point to the safe zone.
- When it's a team's turn, each person on the team will say a direction one by one.
- Like in the simple version, they will use the expressions, "go straight," "turn right," and "turn left."
- The teacher will click the square according to the direction the student says.
- Each correct direction gets 1 point.
- If someone on their team falls in lava, their team's turn is over and they get the points collected up to that point.
- Teams also have a chance to multiply the points they collect.
- If any of the team members say more than one direction on their turn and don't fall in lava, their team's end points could double, triple, or more!
- Example for x2 points: "Go straight 2 blocks." OR "Go straight 1 block and turn right."
- Example for x3 points: "Go straight 3 blocks." OR "Turn left and go straight 2 blocks."
- The team with the most points at the end of the game wins!
