Listening Online-Friendly 10+ Minute Runtime

Game Features

  • Clear, visual instructions for students
  • Includes two kinds of card templates for the game
  • Play as a listening or a listening/reading game - templates for both versions included in the PowerPoint

How to Play

  • Students play this game individually.
  • Each student gets a set of cards with pictures on them relating to the vocabulary or target language of the lesson.
  • Students put their cards in a line in any order they want.
  • During the game, the students ask the teacher a question and the teacher answers with one of the cards (omit question if there's not one part of your target language).
  • If the word/sentence the teacher says is at either end of a student's line, they can take away that card.
  • Very important: Students can't take away middle cards. Only cards at the ends.
  • If a student takes away all their cards, they say "Bingo!" and win the game!

Variations

  • The instructions above are for the listening version of this game. To add a reading component, use cards with text instead of pictures on them. The PowerPoint template also includes slides for this version.
  • For the online/Zoom version of this game, students will draw six blank boxes in a line on their sheet. Then, you will show them six words or sentences. Students write those six words or sentences in the boxes. They can write them in any order. Once all students are finished, you play as you normally would, but instead of taking away a card, students cross out the boxes on their sheet. If this explanation is difficult to understand, check out the visual instructions in the PowerPoint.

Teacher Feedback

(comments and runtimes from the previous version of my site)

  • Students: 10-20 | Time: 15-20min | Skill Focus: Listening | Finished Game? 🟢

Played with various grades of various sizes (grades 3-6, 10-20 students in each class). I like to add the target vocab images into a bag and have students pull one out and say it out loud. I typically play 2-3 rounds. - Anon

  • Students: 21 | Time: 10-15min | Skill Focus: Listening | Finished Game? 🟢

I used the card templates to create cute laminated Bingo cards using my 6 graders target language. It took about 10-15 mins between instruction and completing 3 rounds of the game. The kids had a lot of fun! - Anon

Good listening game

the game is good for listening exercises. You can switch it up by having the teacher speak in one round then another round have the students take turns speaking.
