Speaking Reading 30+ Minute Runtime

Game Features

  • A fun Pictionary-like impostor game inspired by Ratatouille, where one student in each group is secretly “cooking without a clue.”
  • Designed for small groups of 4 or 5, keeping all students actively involved.
  • Encourages careful reading, visual interpretation, and critical thinking.
  • Individual point system that motivates honest play and active participation.

How to Play

  • Students are placed into groups of four chefs and each is assigned a number (1–4).
  • At the start of each round, students put their heads down. The teacher then calls each number one by one to put their heads up and look at the screen.
  • Three numbers will see the same word or sentence, while one will see “Fake” on the screen. They are the “fake chef.”
  • All students then open their eyes and take turns drawing a small part of a picture based on the word or sentence they saw (you can use the included drawing worksheet or give each group a mini whiteboard).
  • The fake chef must draw without knowing what the word or sentence is. They can only guess based on what the other chefs draw and do their best to blend in and not get caught.
  • When time is up, groups vote on who they think the fake chef is.
  • If a group identifies the correct fake chef, the real chefs in that group earn a point, but if the group is wrong, the fake chef earns a point (students keep track of their own points).
  • Finally, after the fake chef is revealed, the teacher has them guess the word or sentence based on their groups’ drawings.
  • The student in each group with the most points wins!
  • Further notes on how to play and edit the game and worksheet have been included in the Notes section of each slide.

Variations

  • You can also play with 5 students per group. Additional slides have been provided for this version, just show or hide them as directed and update the instruction slide.
