Listening Speaking Single-Student Friendly 20+ Minute Runtime

Game Features

  • A Battleship-type game based in the world of Naruto
  • Added scoring system to encourage continued student engagement
  • Fun imagery and sound effects that bring the game to life
  • Ability to play as many rounds as time allows
  • Game worksheets for each village/team provided in the downloadable file

How to Play

  • Divide your students into 6 teams of ninja villages (if you’re not able to divide your students evenly, feel free to reduce the number of villages/teams).
  • NOTE: For this game, students on the same team don’t have to sit together (actually, it’s better if they don’t). You and the students will know who is on the same team by the worksheets you give them which have their village name on them.
  • This game is divided into 3 rounds: Akatsuki Attack, Village Battle, and Battle Again
  • Round 1, Akatsuki Attack, is teacher versus students. This initial round focuses on the listening skill and helps students get used to how the game is played before facing off against each other.
  • Students will draw 6 ninjas in any of the blank boxes on their worksheet.
  • The teacher will say 10 sentences/word combinations using the boxes on the left and top sides of the chart.
  • Students listen carefully and cross out their ninja if it’s in a box the teacher references.
  • After the teacher is finished, each student counts how many ninjas they didn’t cross out. Those ninjas count as points for their team’s village, which the teacher inputs on the scoring slide or writes on a white board.
  • Round 2, Village Battle, is student versus student. For this round, you will pair students up from different villages to play against each other.
  • The game is played exactly like in round 1, except now in their pairs, students take turns making a sentence/word combination to find each other’s ninjas (they draw 6 new ones before they start).
  • The game ends when one student finds all 6 ninjas of the other student. They’re the winner and get an additional point for their village.
  • Round 3, Battle Again, is just a repeat of round 2, but students find a new partner from a different village to play against.
  • Technically, if you have even more time after round 3 is finished, you can repeat the process and keep playing the game until time is up.
  • The village/team with the most points at the end of the game wins!

Variations

  • Depending on what text or images you put in the boxes, this game can be used to practice vocabulary words, sentences, or even phonics (if you put letters in the boxes).
