Speaking 30+ Minute Runtime

Game Features

  • Five types of rewards/punishments
  • Three types of choose-your-fate mystery events

How to Play

  • I usually play this game with teams, but feel free to play with pairs or individually depending on your class size.
  • For this game, teams make a sentence using a word (across) and picture (down) to choose an X.
  • The teacher then clicks the X they chose to reveal their reward or punishment.
  • The game continues until time is up or all the Xs are chosen.
  • The team with the most points at the end of the game wins!

Variations

  • Feel free to use all text or all pictures on the main choosing slide.

Teacher Feedback

(comments and runtimes from the previous version of my site)

  • Students: 12 | Time: 30min | Skill Focus: Speaking | Finished Game? 🟢

Played with 7 year olds. Split into 2 class periods with 15 minutes for the game each time. Rules were modified slightly to adjust for age and speaking ability. - Anon

  • Students: 17 | Time: 25min | Skill Focus: Speaking | Finished Game? 🔴

I only had about 25 minutes to play this game. If I had the whole class time, then I think I would have finished. Played with 5th grade. - Anon

  • Students: 18 | Time: 30min | Skill Focus: Speaking | Finished Game? 🟢

I did this game in my four 6th grade classes today. They loved it but it did take up much of the class. It is a great way to get the kids excited about speaking in front of their classmates. - Anon

  • Students: 30 | Time: 45min | Skill Focus: Speaking | Finished Game? 🟢

I played the game with 2nd year Middle Schoolers. I got them to learn about planning by making them say 'I'm planning to...' and then looking at the Y axis (study x, eat x, go to the x, etc) and then look at the X axis for times (at midday, at 12:15, at 3:20pm, etc). I then got the whole class to repeat that student's sentence and then I'd click on the cross they'd chosen. The game took the entire lesson and we completed the game exactly on time. It depends on how fast your students take to make a sentence, mine usually took 10-15 seconds. I think it was a good game for them to practice! - Anon

  • Nicely done - I like the visuals/audio effects/choice slides. - Anon

  • I used this template yesterday and my students absolutely loved it - thanks for making it! - Anon
