A great educational activity in the form of a gameshow! Download this language game as a fun way for your students to practice language used when shopping!

Uses:

  • Can be used as a speaking or writing game to practice shopping language ("How much is this/are these...?"; "It's/They're (amount of money)."; "It's/They're cheap."; "It's/They're expensive.")
  • Great for ESL/EFL, but can be used for any foreign/second language learning as all text is editable

How it works:

  • Students can play individually, in pairs, or in teams.
  • You will show them an item and they guess how much it costs by writing a price on their whiteboard (or whatever medium you choose).
  • They will have 30 seconds to write.
  • After time is up, each student/pair/team will reveal their guess by making a sentence, “It’s _____ dollars.” or “They’re _____ dollars.” (Feel free to update with whichever currency you're using.)
  • After everyone has revealed their guesses, you will reveal the actual price.
  • The student/pair/team with the closest guess gets a chance to earn points on the next slide.
  • On the next slide, they will choose between 2 price tags. They make their choice by saying the sentence on the tag, “It’s/They’re cheap.” or “It’s/They’re expensive.”
  • The student/pair/team receives the points behind the price tag they chose (I usually have them keep track of their own points to make my life easier).
  • The student/pair/team with the most points at the end of the game wins!
