Speaking Writing Online-Friendly Single-Student Friendly 20+ Minute Runtime

Game Features

  • Play as a writing, reading, or speaking game (details in the “Variations” section)
  • Fun, island-themed graphics and sound effects
  • Includes three levels of difficulty with different point awards associated with each
  • Printable writing and score sheets included in game file

How to Play

  • Students play this game individually.
  • In each round, a pearl goes in a coconut.
  • The students watch that coconut carefully as the three coconuts will then shuffle.
  • Once the coconuts have stopped shuffling, students guess where the pearl now is by a writing the word/sentence on the sign under the coconut of their choosing.
  • When all students have finished writing or the music has stopped, the teacher reveals where the pearl is.
  • If a student was correct, they get points based on the color of the pearl (white = 1 point, pink = 3 points, yellow = 5 points).
  • The student with the most points at the end of the game wins!
  • Additional notes of how to play and edit the game can be found in the "notes" sections of the PowerPoint.

Variations

  • This game can be played in pairs or groups as well. I usually give each pair/group a mini whiteboard to write their answers on. They can keep track of their own points on their whiteboard too.
  • The instructions above are for the writing version of this game. I have also played this game to practice speakingand reading as well. For the reading variation, after the coconuts shuffle, go through each coconut one by one. As you go through each coconut, have the students who think that coconut has the pearl stand up and read the word/sentence on the sign under the coconut together. For the speaking variation, it’s played the same as the reading variation except you put pictures instead of words on the three signs. Finally, when using either of these variations, delete the timer music on the game slides (more details in the “Notes” sections of the slides).

I duplicated some slides to make 26 questions in total (so each of my 13 students can play twice). They are learning the alphabet so instead of written text, I added an audio to each question. The students listened and chose the correct letter. - Anon

  • Thank you so much for your hard work making these activities. My students have really been enjoying them. I appreciate the circle your score worksheet that you made for this version. I try to use some of your powerpoints in an elementary school setting where writing out sentences isn't yet possible, so a writing alternative is very convenient for me. Your work is amazing and I (as well as many others I would imagine) really respect and appreciate you. - Russell

  • Thanks Tay for your brilliant engaging ppts . They have really helped my classes! - Kay

  • Thanks so much for this game! My students went absolutely wild for it! - Anon

Fun

I used the Seashore Shuffle to help students review the lesson about fruits. They must complete the sentence with knowledge of the last lesson. Thanks so much for sharing this resources!
