Writing Online-Friendly Single-Student Friendly 30+ Minute Runtime

Game Features

  • Colorful imagery and fun sound effects
  • Writing worksheet included in game file
  • If playing the game more than once with the same students, merely reorder the game slides to make it feel like a fresh game

How to Play

  • Students play this game individually.
  • Two words or sentences are shown on the screen. One is correct, the other is wrong (ex. wrong spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc.)
  • Students have 10 seconds to choose the correct sentence by either standing up (pink) or sitting down (green).
  • When the timer goes off, students can't move.
  • The teacher will then reveal the correct word/sentence (+ points) and wrong word/sentence (- points).
  • Students mark how many points they got on their sheet and those who chose the wrong word/sentence have to write the correct sentence as well.
  • See the notes sections in the PowerPoint for a more detailed explanation if needed.

Variations

  • For the online/Zoom version of this game, students can just write the sentences and keep track of their score in their notebook or on a piece of paper instead of using the game's provided writing sheet.

I played with my class of fourth graders with about 20-25 minutes of game time. We did two practice rounds with the first two slides and played for the next 8 slides until class was over. - Anon

  • I played this with my students and they loved it. I gave them 20 seconds to choose a sentence and write it in their notebooks before standing or remaining seated. - Ady

  • Used as a review/game for "This is" / "Is This?" Grammar point for English class (Japan). Went really well! The students really liked it. - Anon
