Game Features

• Imagery, sounds, and animations closely resemble an actual Super Mario game.
• Includes a writing worksheet for the game.
• If playing the game more than once with the same students, merely reorder the game slides to make it feel like a fresh game.

How to Play

• Students play this game individually.
• On each slide, students choose one of three mystery blocks by writing the word/sentence above the block.
• Once students are finished writing (or the music has stopped), press the spacebar or arrow key to reveal how many points they got from the box they chose.
• Gold mushrooms are worth +2 points, red mushrooms +1 point, and poison mushrooms -1 point.
• Students circle which mushroom they received next to the sentence they wrote on their worksheet and add up their scores at the end of the game.

Variations

• This game can be played in pairs or groups as well. I usually give each pair/group a mini whiteboard to write their answers on. They can keep track of their own points on their whiteboard too.
• For the online/Zoom version of this game, students can just write the sentences and keep track of their score in their notebook or on a piece of paper instead of using the game's provided writing sheet.
