Speaking Single-Student Friendly 20+ Minute Runtime

Game Features

  • Dynamic point system to keep the game exciting
  • 12 rounds of gameplay
  • Play as a reading or a speaking game - templates for both versions included in the PowerPoint

How to Play

  • Split students up into 6 teams of Pokémon.
  • A team reads a sentence, then the teacher presses 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 to send their team's Pokémon to the sentence they read to “hide” it.
  • After all Pokémon are sent into hiding, the teacher presses the Team Rocket logo to send in Team Rocket.
  • 1-4 Poké Balls will appear to “catch” the Pokémon and the teams whose Pokémon are not "caught" get points.
  • Poké Ball = 1 point for each surviving team. So if Team Rocket sends out 2 Poké Balls, then the surviving teams get 2 points each. Three Poké Balls, three points, and so on. Also, if ONLY 1 team remains not caught after all Poké Balls are thrown, they get double points. Since some slides have 4 Poké Balls thrown, there’s a chance for 8 points to a single surviving team.
  • After all Poké Balls are thrown, an arrow will appear in the top right-hand corner. Click the arrow to go to the next round.

Variations

  • You can also play this game in pairs or individually if there aren’t too many students.
  • If the scoring system is too complicated for students to understand, you can switch to a simple scoring system where teams get 1 point if their Pokémon is not caught (doesn't matter how many Poké Balls are sent out).
  • The instructions above are for the reading version of this game. To play as a speaking game, use images instead of words in the boxes. A template for this version is also included as hidden slides at the end of the PowerPoint. Further in instructions on how to play and edit this version are found in the "notes" section of the PowerPoint.
