A mystery-filled speaking game where students ask questions, analyze clues, and uncover the thief!
Great for:
- Practicing question forms in the present tense and answering in complete sentences
- Speaking, listening, and logical reasoning
- Whole-class interactive activities
- Icebreakers, review days, or special lesson days
How to play:
- The teacher gives each student a suspect card. Students may look at their own card, but all information must be kept secret from classmates.
- One suspect is the thief, but the students don't know who it is.
- The teacher will show the students different clues from the police about the thief.
- Students move around the classroom asking each other questions related to the clues.
- They'll give answers to the questions based on the information on their suspect card.
- As the game continues, students use the information they collect to rule out suspects and narrow down who the thief could be.
- If a student thinks they know who the thief is, they quietly memorize the number on the back of that suspect’s card.
- After all clues have been revealed, students who believe they know the thief raise their hand and say the suspect number aloud.
- Each named suspect comes to the front of the room but keeps their card hidden.
- Once all suspects are lined up, the class votes on who they think the thief is.
- Finally, the teacher reveals the true thief and asks the voted suspect to confirm whether the class was correct.
