How to Play

Each team has three (4-team version) or five (2-team version) battleships of different lengths hidden on the game board.

A student/team chooses a letter and answers the question or completes the task on the corresponding slide.

If they get it correct, the teacher will take them to a reward page where they will be shown one to five missiles to fire at other teams.

The teacher will then go back to the game board where the student/team can choose which tiles they want to fire their missiles at. To choose a tile they will say a letter and number (ex. F3).

The teacher will click the tile(s) they choose to reveal if it was a hit or miss.

Once all missiles are fired, the teacher goes back to the question-choosing slide and the next team has their turn.

The last student/team with battleships on the board or with the least amount of hits at the end of the game wins.

found that students always tried to target one team - usually whoever already had the most hits - so it was hard to have a winner with whoever had the least hits because usually didn't have enough time to get that far

My more shy kids had a fun time playing!! They really enjoyed the strategy aspect of the game, which made them want to participate. My students did not finish the game (AKA sink all the other teams battleships) but we just went off who had the most hits.

I played the two-team version with my 3rd-grade middle school classes to review one book lesson. I put the students into pairs (everyone had a partner to play with), then I split the pairs into two teams (team 1 and team 2). I alternated between the teams on each turn. Every pair had to answer for their team. When it was their pair's turn to answer for their team, I had the pair stand, chose a letter or number, answer the question, and fire the missiles at the other team. This worked very well. Most of my classes got very into the game and enjoyed it very much (you truly cannot win all the time with this age group lol, so there were a couple of classes that acted bored and uninterested). But I would call it a win overall. If you have large class sizes like me, this way worked very well and ensured every student's participation.
