Game Features

  • Fun, dynamic team-building story game
  • Set in the Madagascar world, featuring 10 of its characters
  • Great for practicing reading, listening, and critical thinking
  • Story aspects simplified for elementary students, but can edit if you have older/higher level students
  • Printable worksheet included in game file

How to Play

  • Students can play individually, in pairs, or in teams. Give each a worksheet.
  • Animals want to escape from the zoo. The students’ goal is to choose five animals that will make the best team for escaping.
  • First, the students will be shown 10 different characters. They will read about their strengths and weaknesses.
  • From that information, students will decide which characters they want on their team. Additionally, they have to think about which animals they think will work well together and which won’t as this will also affect their overall score.
  • After students are finished choosing, the teacher will reveal how many points students got for each character as well as if they received additional points or minus points for having two specific characters on their team.
  • Students will then add up all their points, and the student/pair/team with the highest score wins!

  • I have no variations for this game at this time. If you played it a different way in your class and would like to share, I would be happy to hear from you in the comments below! :)

Good for a filler class for higher ability learners

Played with elementary school 6th grade (no coteacher). The English in the PPT is very difficult but they coped fine with me paraphrasing/doing actions etc. The higher ability kids seemed to really enjoy it and it is useful as a filler and/or last minute class, however it is quite minimal on actually using English compared to other games, and the lower ability kids didn't understand the concept at all. Even the higher ability students don't bother to read/listen to the information on the points slides once they realise they can just wait for the number to pop up.
On a selfish note, it also got so exhausting/boring reading out all the information repeatedly. After playing it with 7 classes over two consecutive days I actually couldn't face it again so the remaining classes did something different. Wouldn't be a problem if you're only planning to play it once/a couple of times, or if you have very high ability students who can read the slides for themselves.
