Game Features
- An exciting, X-Men-themed reimagining of the classic Evolution/Level Up Game
- Includes 5 mutant levels, each with an iconic pose or hand gesture for students to use during the game
- 2 variations of the game depending on which words or expressions you want to practice
- Dynamic, constantly evolving gameplay to keep students engaged
- No extra materials to print to or prepare
How to Play
- Students play individually and everyone starts at Mutant Class 1.
- Their goal is to move up each of the 5 classes to become leader of the X-Men!
- During the game, students move around the room while doing the action pose of their mutant class to find another student who is at the same class level (they will be doing the same action pose).
- Once they find a match, they play Rock, Paper, Scissors, Shoot! However, instead of “Shoot,” both students say the target word or sentence for their mutant class when they reveal their hand.
- The winner moves up one class, while the loser returns to Class 1.
- Students continue finding opponents at their current class level and battling to move up.
- When a Class 5 student beats another Class 5 student, they can challenge the Leader, who is initially the teacher.
- If the Class 5 student wins, they become the new Leader for other students to battle.
- The game continues until time is up and whoever is the leader at that time is the winner!
Variations
- If using questions and answers for your target language, you can also play like the original Level Up Game where students first ask and answer the question then play Rock, Paper, Scissors (without “Shoot”). Game instructions and game slide for this version can also be found in the PowerPoint.
- You can also play in shorter rounds instead of one long round so you have multiple winners by the end of the game.
- An alternate "leader" scenario is having students who beat the teacher sit down and are out of the game. I found this to be just as an enticing reward for students.
